Streptococcus thermophilus

Streptococcus thermophilus is a Gram-positive, spherical-shaped microbe that thrives in thermophilic environments, classified as a Chemoheterotroph, and can be found in various body sites of humans and animals, including the mouth, gut, and urinary tract. As a Facultative Anaerobe, it can survive in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, allowing it to adapt to diverse environments. The Gram-positive cell wall of S. thermophilus provides it with a unique structure, composed of a thick peptidoglycan layer, which contributes to its resistance to environmental stressors.
