Description

Cupriavidus metallidurans CH34. This strain was first identified in the heavy metal-contaminated sludge of a settling tank in Belgium in the late 1970s. Metal resistance functions are predominantly encoded on two plasmids, pMOL28 and pMOL30, which produce metal exporters that pump metal ions out of the cell, thus protecting intracellular macromolecules from the toxic effects of high concentrations of metal.
