Staphylococcus capitis, a ubiquitous microbe, is a Gram-positive, spherical-shaped bacterium that thrives in temperatures ranging from 20°C to 40°C, falling under the category of mesophiles. As a chemoheterotroph, it relies on complex organic compounds as its energy source, breaking them down anaerobically to produce ATP through fermentation. S. capitis is found in almost all body sites across all human species, including the skin, mucous membranes, and respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary tracts. Its ability to inhabit diverse environments is attributed to its remarkable adaptability and robustness. As an obligate anaerobe, S. capitis requires an oxygen-free environment to survive and multiply. It is unable to tolerate even low levels of oxygen, making it highly susceptible to oxidative stress.
