Bacillus subtilis is a mesophile, heterotrophic, chemoheterotroph bacterium that produces energy through substrate-level phosphorylation, is Gram-positive, rod-shaped, found in soil and various body sites, and is a facultative anaerobe. This versatile microbe thrives at moderate temperatures, typically between 20°C and 45°C, making it well-suited for diverse environments.
